It’s also a big disappointment that players can’t reload the game from a save point of their choice, but are instead forced to load from their last played moment saved on the cloud. This assumes that everyone has a highspeed connection, which just isn’t true, yet. And, as EA quickly learned, this is one way to kill your game sales. First, SimCity requires players to be connected online while playing the game at all times. The good news is that Maxis included sliders so that you can turn the music all the way off without turning the sound effects off because, you know, building a city to Jimi Hendrix is much more enjoyable. The soundtrack is an emotionally driven wave of cartoony Sims-esque music that we are used to and it’s enjoyable at first, but you’ll quickly find yourself wanting to get rid of it. However, you’ll still notice some framerate drops as you add more and more buildings and sims to your city. So, when you factor this point in, the game is impressive for what it can handle. This was expected though, due to the amount of different things that can be going on at any time on the screen.
SIMCITY 5 REVIEWS UPDATE
SimCity definitely brought back some memories of playing the previous iteration, SimCity 4. However, the newest update to the franchise adds a mixed bag of new gameplay aspects, some good and some terrible.įor one, SimCity looks pretty good on the highest settings, but there’s nothing mind-blowing here. But was it good enough to make up for the long wait to actually play the game? But, as we all expected, once we actually got into the game (which took five days after its launch), it was a good experience. A slew of EA customers attempted to get a refund for their un-playable game and many of the responses from Origin’s customer service reps were shared, showing that EA was unwilling to give refunds for digital copies of the game. Then, SimCity’s servers crashed majorly, preventing 98% (rumored) of its gamers from even being able to connect to play the game, rendering the game a useless 14GB hard drive whore, as the game is online only. First, gamers (including me) couldn’t even download the game from Origin.

There have been all sorts of issues with this game’s launch. In fact, I can’t recall any other launch that has been botched this badly. Why did it take so long? For those who live under a rock, EA’s SimCity has had a launch week from hell.
SIMCITY 5 REVIEWS FULL
Well, nearly a full week after SimCity’s release, we have played the game enough to feel comfortable giving our full review. You can add 2013 to the title so people don't confuse it with the original.Developer: Maxis Publisher: Electronic Arts Release: MaMSRP: $59.99

It used to force you to have an internet connection to play the game at all, but they're adding an offline mode due to complaint from fans. There's also multiplayer, which can be nice, though someone might create a crappy city and totally screw up the cities around. You can have curved and custom elevated roads, which is really nice. SimCity 2013 is a fair bit easier than SimCity 4 and more fun to play, IMO.

SimCity 2013 is a very beautiful game graphics wise, but your cities are limited to a relatively small box. The freedom to build whatever kind of city and at whatever size you want makes up for it though.

You can't have curved or fancy roads without hard-to-understand mods, and it can get a little boring at times, though. SimCity 4 has outdated graphics, but it's a great city simulator, and it gives you a lot of freedom to build whatever kind of city you want.
SIMCITY 5 REVIEWS MOD
Yes mod hunting is harder than just installing 2013, but IMO Simcity 4+mods is much much better than Simcity 2013. And then just go through Simtropolus and sc4devotion for good lots, be they parks, residential, commercial, industrial, transportation, whatever (but keep track of what "dependencies" these have or they wouldn't show up properly in game). If you want a good rural/farming city, go look through SimPeg, he also does very good waterfronts/docks/piers. If you like building huge cities you should probably get CAM, it adds more "growth stages" (meaning building denser and denser with more gradiation) that make cities look better and handle some of the super-big buildings without completely clogging your city. The extra transportation options and improved traffic algorithem alone make a world of difference.

But I would maybe take 2013 over 4 if mods were taken out of the equation.īut just adding NAM alone is like adding another whole expansion pack (maybe more). If you go with 4, you need at least some mods.
